Death “Has your attitude toward capital punishment been reinforced, challenged or changed by the book Dead Man Walking?” It has always been my personal belief that there is a better way of deterring crime than the death penalty. Death is such a strong reaction to a crime, no matter how gruesome it is. True; murderers need to be punished. A murderer should be locked away for life with no chance for parole however, not killed in cold blood by a few men the government has hired. The book, Dead Man Walking, has only strengthened my belief and arguments against the death penalty. The book states many reasons why the death penalty is nothing more than a show of power by the state it is instituted in. The book tells how the public is greatly misinformed when it comes to the death penalty. 70 percent of the nation agrees with the death penalty (1986 Gallup Poll), but after learning more about it, only 43 percent do.
