Day in the life of...

I am shy and reclusive and make my home near lakes and streams.I am a Platypus. I am most notable for my recognizable snout, which is broad, flat, and very rubbery. My body is short, my feet are webbed and my legs are short and splayed. Our bodies can reach up to 14 inches, and our tails alone can be up to 5 inches long. My body is covered in a soft layer of fur that can be anywhere from the color brown to the color yellow. I am female platypus so I am much smaller than the males. The males have hollow spurs connected to venom glands on each hind leg. They are used to fight when protecting their territories and/or determining what female he wants to mate with. My eyes and inner ear openings lie on either side of my head. The openings can be closed when I am submerged under water. I have no outer eyes or ears so I cannot see or hear when I am under the water. I must rely on my notorious snout.
