Danton

class to watch the film Danton by Andrej Wajda. This was a story that was set against the terror of the second year of the French republic. While the dialog was completely in French, subtitles were provided for us to “read the movie”. While this may have given us literal translations regarding the story line, it did not provide anyone a sense of emotion from the characters being portrayed. Additionally, not having a thorough background in the French Revolution, had a major impact in watching this movie and trying to analyze it for history’s sake. But in doing post movie research, my notes from the class were accurate in picking out high points that gave some credence to what we watched on screen.
