Carolyn Carlson (2002, p.42), states in her article “The Changing Workplace” that workers in the last century often held the belief that if they started working for a company in their late teens and stayed until retirement they could do so without many problems. Most looked at it as a great accomplishment. In the recent history of employment it was thought that the only way to become a good manager was to start at the lowest levels and work your way up, thereby learning all aspects of a company. Once this is learned you could expect to become a supervisor or a manger. Moving from company to company is a phenomenon of the new century. Staying at a job for a few years only to learn a new skill is common -place. Changing fields and occupations is widely acceptable, even if you have worked for competing companies. Modern stand...
