Woods Management 330 Mr. Lee August 14, 2003 Carolyn Carlson (2002, p.42), states in her article “The Changing Workplace” that workers in the last century often held the belief that if they started working for a company in their late teens and stayed until retirement they could do so without many problems. Most looked at it as a great accomplishment. In the recent history of employment it was thought that the only way to become a good manager was to start at the lowest levels and work your way up, thereby learning all aspects of a company. Once this is learned you could expect to become a supervisor or a manger. Moving from company to company is a phenomenon of the new century. Staying at a job for a few years only to learn a new skill is common -place. Changing fields and occupations is widely acceptable, even if you have worked for competing companies. Modern stand...
