Cultures and Customs of Nigeria

The Cultures and Customs of Nigeria was a very enlightening book. It was astounding how many similarities there are to Western culture as I know it. Worlds apart, people are primarily the same, just with slightly different customs and traditions.
Nigeria is a country that has immense religious influence. From government to family life, from media to wardrobe; all have some aspect of religion filtered into them. And even more amazing, is the fact that there are several different religions, world wide and indigenous, and people who can have respect or at least tolerance for the others (29).
This book has drawn a vivid picture of who Nigerian’s are as a people. As an American, I often compare my personal American culture to other cultures as I learn about them. In doing this, it helps give me a better sense of who people are. Being raised in the church, and knowing how religion has effected my own upbringing, I can relate to how religion shapes the aspect of family, ...
