Cultural Literacy

“Cultural literacy” is defined as common knowledge that a literate individual can comprehend. Throughout history, information has been passed down from generation to generation in various ways. Some such ways include, but are not limited to, encyclopedias, dictionaries, television, newspapers, etc. As a young individual, one is subconsciously exposed to these outlets of knowledge daily. In my lifetime, these sources have impacted my development and growth as a human being greatly. Three significant leaders, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Moses have all had a tremendous impact on society. All of these great men dedicated their lives to the betterment of their fellow man, society, and culture. Therefore, it is imperative that culturally literate people know about the contributions that they have made towards the betterment of the world.
