cuba

Cuba is the largest and most western island of the West Indies. It forms with various islands, the Republic of Cuba. Cuba occupies a central location between North America and South America and lies between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. For most of Cuba's history, it's fertile soil and abundant sugar and tobacco production made it the wealthiest island of the Caribbean.
Cuba's first inhabitants were indigenous people who arrived by sea, following trade winds westward from the coast Venezuela. There is little evidence of the first settlers there, which were the Ciboney. They settled at Cuba about 1000 B. C. The Ciboney lived along the coast and survived by fishing, hunting, and gathering plant foods. They lived in small clans and left no written record of society, religions, or languages.
