Crying Game

A war exist in each one of our lives in which we battle against our environmental influences and societies pressures as we seek to discovery our true identity. In The Crying Game Stephen Rea plays Fergus a tough Irish solider trying to escape the horrors of war, or are these horrors really just his own identity which he is running away from. His weary eyes and the fact that he got to know his prisoner a little too much is enough to assure us that Fergus is unsure about himself. Although Societies pressures may have surpressed Fergus’ identity, it was his personal history that induced his problem.
In this war Fergus’ identity problem starts coming to surface due to the role he was asked to play as a soldier which went against his nature. He gets to know the hostage Jody more than he should which probably made him more aware of his insecurities. These insecurities are apparent when he starts to tell Jody a story and can’t even finish.
