The Crucible
What is a theme of a story? Theme is defined as a subject or topic on which a person speaks, writes, or thinks or an idea that recurs in or pervades a work of art or literature. In The Crucible written by Arthur Miller theme is expressed in many different forms and concepts. There is a prodigious amount of themes in The Crucible. Some of them contradict others, some of them overlap, and no one of them completely explains the play. The themes that will be deeper explained further on are: hysteria, Injustice of the Church, the reputation of the people, and intolerance.
The critical theme in The Crucible is the part of hysteria, which played a tremendous role in which it tore apart the community. This is what caused and started all the chaos in the community. Hysteria is a psychological disorder whose symptoms include volatile emotions and attention-seeking behavior.
