Critique on Jay Gatsby

The morally ambiguous character of this story is Jay Gatsby. Throughout the whole book, only he knows the motives of Jay Gatsby. The whole book relies on the use of the ambiguity for suspense and cliffhanging, perhaps to contrast the almost miticulate style of writing the author possesses.

Even when we first meet him, Fitzgerald uses over-dramatic qualities, something not used in the book yet, to emphasize the mystery surrounding him. Even in his own party the cloud is strong.
