Critique on Death of a Salesman

The movie “Death of a Salesman” is a concise, trimmed version of the play with exquisite acting, lighting, sets, and costumes. In this classic drama, Arthur Miller suggests to his audience both what is truthful and what is deceptive in the American dream and, therefore, in the lives of millions of Americans.
This film is realistic and is portrayed effectively because of its characterization. Willy, played by Dustin Hoffman, is excellent at making his character appear senile with an uncontrollable temper. This senility is best noticed in the opening scene when Willy believes that the car he is driving is the car he owned years before. Linda, performed by Katie Reid, crafts her character to be a loving wife who feels frustration and anger towards her husband, but nevertheless, supports and defends him. An example of this is when Biff badmouths Willy and Linda argues that he is a good person.
