The article “Opening Faces” written by Eugenia Kaw, I felt was a very compelling and well written article. The topic of the article, explains itself in the title, meaning surgery on the face. Kaw is discussing, explaining, and providing the facts of why Asian American women are having surgery preformed on their eyes and nose. These women are particularly choosing to undergo a surgical operation to essentially change their eyes (by creating a more prominent crease) and, in some cases, their nose (which is cut to look shaper) for a more ‘westernized’ look. In this article, Kaw is attempting to uncover why exactly these Asian women are attempting to undergo costly, and sometimes dangerous surgeries, in order to drastically change their appearance.
