Critically consider the view that reform is the best means of achieving a socialist society.

One of the most debated topics in socialism is how socialism is going to be

achieved. A socialist society is one whereby the system of social organisation is based

on collective ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange,

instead of being held by the Capitalists who increase profits at the cost of the lower

classes conditions. It is possible to achieve a socialist society by two main ways, and

each way has supporters on each side. The first is advocated by Karl Marx and is

revolution, and the second by Eduard Bernstein and is reform. A revolution is “the

overthrow of an established order which will involve the transfer of state policy from

one leadership to another.” For socialists, the established order is the capitalist state

and the new policy would be that of socialism. Reform is defined as “a policy of
