The debates regarding DID have very interesting views on the subject. The first argument stated by Putnam infers that the diagnosis of Multiple Personality Disorder holds the three basic forms of validity (Content, construct and criterion-related). Putnam also concludes that DID is iatrogenic and can be measured reliably through staged-situations with actors role playing the part of an individual diagnosed with the condition. Furthermore, he states that DID is a “pathological process” and can be determined by reliable scales and interviews.

McHugh, believes that DID is an unrealistic condition. Instead, he believes that therapists through suggestions of condition make patients believe they have the condition. He also believes that patients are just suffering from a “modern-day” hysteria.
