Crime & Heroin

Crimes have become a huge issue in our community; it’s not surprising as they are costing us an estimated $32 billion- or $1600 per person each year (as stated by the Australian Institute of Criminology). The highest casting crime being assaults at $1.4 billion, followed by vehicle theft- $180 million and sexual assaults at $20 million a year nationally. With the rise in crime rates, and their costs we also have to consider the fact that crime prevention and law enforcement is adding to the cost communities are paying for. The cost of police duties related to crime prevention and law enforcement in Australia is an estimated $3.23 billion a year.

Another big issue in the newspapers is Victoria’s heroin habit. The link is apparent with crime rates, as they are both some of the bigger concerns on the Governments agenda.
