Court Case Analysis Regents of the University of California v. Bakke

The University of California adopted a special admissions program (separate from the main admissions program) in order to achieve a more ethnically diverse student body. University representatives also stated other goals of the separate admissions program such as: “to counter the effects of societal discrimination and to increase the number of physicians who will practice in communities currently underserved” (Camp 120). Unsatisfied that white applicants could only compete for 84 open seats while 100 seats were open to minority applicants, White male Allan Bakke filed suit against the University.
