Cookies are a threat to privacy

Cookies are the technological equivalent of a peeping tom because, by stealth, they invade the privacy of people using the Internet. Have you ever wondered what sort of information is being recorded on the websites that you visit? Or have you ever experienced signing up for a site, putting your first name in and when you next visit the site it automatically logs you in and “Hello … ”. This is because a file, called a ‘cookie’ has been stored on your computer with your login details, password, first name, and which site you have visited. The same holds true when you purchase goods online - you can return later and your goods are still in your shopping cart even though you have logged out of that site. This is not greater convenience, this is an invasion of your privacy.
