Dear Sir/Madam,

In response to remarks made at last months council meeting I would like re-assure the members of the council of the benefits that will accrue as a result of having an Internal Audit Unit. It should be pointed that the Unit is an independent entity with no line management or internal control system responsibilities. This ensures integrity, confidentiality and professionalism within the Unit.

However, I think I can best show the need for an Internal Audit Unit by outlining how we intend to tackle a contract audit. Firstly, I will outline our objectives in auditing a contract and then the work that would be undertaken to achieve our objectives.
