I. Conflict In Your Work Environment
A. What Is Conflict?
Merriam-Webster defines conflict as a mental struggle resulting from incompatible or opposing needs, drives, wishes, or external or internal demands. This is an every day occurrence across the nation. From businesses to our personal lives, we encounter conflict every day. How we deal with those situations varies. As you read along, you will discover a few of the conflicts teams might have working in the modern day world.
B. Types Of Conflict
There are many different types of conflict. The two that pertains most to teams are Emotional and Data conflict.
Emotional conflict is personal, defensive, and resentful. It is rooted in anger, personal friction, personality clashes, ego, and tension. With this type of conflict, the team looses focus on the task and is preoccupied with reducing friction, egos (personality clashes), and trying to reduce tension bringing the team back on track.
