Conclusion to Chemical Reactions Lab

The object of this project is to observe chemical reactions, and to identify the type of reaction it is, the products, the reactants, etc. In this experiment we are to try to recover 100% of the copper we used through several chemical reactions. We used 1.5 grams of copper, to catalyze a chemical reaction, and we try to recover the copper through a series of reactions. These reactions consist of single replacement, double replacement, combination, and decomposition. These Reactions yield different types of products such as heat, color, or fumes.
Conversion 1 consisted catalyzing a chemical reaction. We accomplished this by adding 1.5 grams of copper to a solution of nitric acid. This produced Copper Nitrate (nitrogen dioxide and water was also a product.), a dark blue solution. Brown gases started to rise from the solution, which was nitrogen dioxide, and precipitates of water started to form on the beaker.
