Comparison of the themes of death portrayed differently by two poems "Mid-Term Break" and "On my first sonne"

Death is a mutual subject in both poems. What varies is the manner in which the poets have portrayed their thoughts and the points of view each has taken towards death. Both poems have been composed to convey the feelings the authors had; feelings that differ due to the difference in situations each had to face.
The author, Seamus Heaney, who wrote “Midterm Break”, lost a sibling when he was at a young age of around 17 himself. He wrote this poem at a later age, reminiscing the experiences he had from the time he got the news till the time his brother’s body is taken away.
For Heaney, the aftermath of the death of his young brother teleported him into a whole new world. Entering his house, Heaney spotted the first anomaly: “in the porch I met my father crying-” This death in the family had finally pushed Heaney’s father beyond his breaking point.
