Comparison between “The Wife’s Lament” and “The Husband’s Message”

Marriage now is different from how it was in the earlier period. Relationship between a husband and a wife was much more complex than now. In marriages wives did not have much freedom and saying. The husbands were the one usually making all the decisions and the wives are the one who had to make the sacrifices to have their marriages last. He was not always capable of expressing his feelings toward his wife. I will make use of two of the Anglo-Saxon poems, “The Wife’s Lament” and “The Husband’s Message” to outlook the relationship in marriage. Some people believe these two poems to be about two different families and some believe them to be about the same family. I believe these poems to be about the same couple of husband and wife. I will illustrate the similarities in both poems in the direction of the compassion that both the husband and the wife had for each other and also how they each are similar; as that in both poems the wives were the victims of the society or of a...
