Jane who is a plain orphan, has no family or friends, no wealth or position, living herself as a governess. Maggie¡¯s the daughter of a miller in the English midlands. Though they were created by different authors and appeared in different books,I often imagine they live in the different places of England at the same time. Tess has all of the virtues of the laborers. She is industrious, innocent. At the beginning of the novel, the heroin Tess knows nothing but help her parents as much as possible she uses, ¡°as soon as she left school, to lend a hand at hay making or harvesting on neighboring farms; or, by preference, at milking or butter-making processes,¡± to support the family and take care of her little sisters and brothers.
