The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis

While there are many differences between the Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis in the Old Testament, there are also several similarities. Many details in the Epic of Gilgamesh are similar to occurrences in the Hebrew story of creation. One of the major similarities between the two works is the story of the flood. Another similarity is the occurrence of snakes in each story. The resemblance of each story to each other implies that perhaps each culture “borrowed” from each other to help explain the creation of man.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, a great flood wiped out nearly all of mankind in a great disaster.
