Coming To Awareness

Coming to awareness is a process of gaining an understanding of ourselves and others. For some this is a process that may take years to recognize. Others may recognize it right away. Racism, stereotypes, and the gap between parents and children are a few examples of what people must learn to become aware of. Humility, insult, and self reflection are a few examples of how people achieve an understanding of awareness. Once this is achieved, it is up to the person to use this knowledge to help them succeed.
A very important issue that everyone must learn to become aware of racism. Malcolm X, who was a black civil rights leader, becomes aware of this issue as a young man. Becoming aware of racism was not a very easy issue for Malcolm to deal with. It actually affected him to the point that he gave up in school. Malcolm’s tone in the story also helped show that it was an issue with a rude awakening. Racism is a very strong issue and should not be taken lightly.
