Clarisse and Mildred in Fahrenheit 451 (by Ray Bradbury)

While reading the story Fahrenheit 451, one can easily notice a great difference between Clarisse and Mildred, the two characters that were a part of Montag’s life. Montag, the main character of the story, was a fireman. His specific job was to burn the books. Mildred, his wife, is a typical woman of that society. Her life consists of watching TV all the time and talking to her friends on the phone. Clarisse, on the contrary, is vividly depicted as a distinctive person because she manages to change Montag’s life. She makes him start thinking about books, about their meaning, and about his aim in life.
