CKY! CKY! CKY!

A Cream Cracker Under The Settee

The play is a strongly affecting performance that would be performed on the radio, TV or in a theatre. It is a monologue of an elderly woman who has fallen over and hurt her leg, but cannot get up. As she is on the floor, she reminisces parts of her life to the audience.
Because the play is a monologue, it is more personal than a usual third person perspective, as it solely concentrates on one person’s feelings and opinions. For example, “I should never have tried to dust” and showing her opinions, “Home help. Home hindrance. You’re better off doing it yourself”.
Also the fact it is a monologue allows a wide use of emotive language. For example, when she says “I wouldn’t care if they were my leaves. They’re not my leaves. They’re next-door’s leaves.” When she is saying this she is obviously quite bitter about it, as emphasised by the short, abrupt sentences and emotive words.
A lot of the play...
