Civilization Deteriorates to Savagery

If civilization is the opposite of savagery, then is it still possible to migrate from one to the other in a matter of months? As for the way deterioration works, one who is stripped of all that makes them who they are will become the opposite of what he/she used to be. Even with many other things on this Earth of which an example would be that a ripe apple deteriorates over time until it is no longer edible whereas it was and edible fruit at one time prior to the rotting. Likewise, people have that rise and fall. In William Golding’s novel The Lord of the Flies, when the boys first arrive on the island they automatically have the desire for some kind of law and order; a set of rules to keep everything together due to the fact that adults have absolutely no presence on the island whatsoever.
