What were the causes of the English Civil War?

The English Civil War was from 1642 – 1649. There were various causal factors that lead to the English civil war, in which many dreadful events occurred. In the summer of 1641, no one even thought that a civil war was even possible, but in less than a year the civil war broke out. A civil war is where the citizens of one nation fight against each other, sometimes brother fights against brother, father fights against son and families are destroyed. The English civil war was a tragic event, the followers of the king, also known as Royalists, against those who supported parliament, Parliamentarians.

Although the civil war happened during the reign of King Charles I, it had been building up since the reign of King James I.
