Civil Rights: Thurgood Marshall

Thurgood Marshall is a very important figure in the history of civil rights and the first Black Supreme Court Justice. He was born on July 2, 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland where he later returned to practice law. Marshall graduated from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and Howard University Law School in Washington, D. C. He became a special assistant of the NAACP, trying to get rid of racial segregation. He ended up winning 32 out of 35 cases taken to the Supreme Court, where his reputation spread throughout the United States for his great work.
