Cisco Systems was founded in 1984 by a group of computer scientists, Leonard Bosack and Sandy Learner, a husband and wife team, both from Stanford University. Together, they designed a new networking device that made it easier for computers to exchange and share data. Their plan was to integrate this technology into local area and wide area networks. Cisco¡¦s original customers were universities, the aerospace industry and government agencies. Today, Cisco Systems has expanded its target market to large enterprises, service providers (SP) and small to medium businesses. In 1986, the company shipped its first multi-protocol router, which generated revenue of $1.5 million in 1987. By 1998, the company had invested in part of Asia.
