n the very "Chicano" community-based nature, Chicano art is a public and political art, proclaiming and expressing public and social concerns in its themes and subjects, and even in its most private or seemingly obscure, extravagant, or initially incomprehensible examples. In comparison to Chicano art, the Ukrainian contemporary art is marked by certain efforts to combine art and political issue. Ukrainian contemporary art takes a very ambiguous position towards politics. The roots of such ambiguity can be found in the historical development of the country. The official art was engaged in supporting of established communist system during a period of 70 years. At the time, not to deal with politics meant to have clean hands and at the same time it was a kind of protest against the official regime...
