Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Tribune was started in 1847 by two newspapermen and a leather merchant. The Tribune has always been a leader in its industry. Early in its history, it merged with the Democratic Press and later took over Chicago’s oldest paper, the Daily Democrat. The paper expanded to radio in 1924 and broadcast its first television program in 1948. In 1981, the Tribune Company purchased the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Then, in 1992, the paper started its first online service, available only through America Online. Finally, in 1996, Chicagotribune.com was formed.
