In totality, this poem tells us about a being loving another being for his own sake and shows love as an element of man nature. When love fills the hearts of men, all things that used to matter withers away and becomes unimportant as love grows. Celia is someone the poet adores and longs for, as can be seen from the title of the poem, “Song to Celia”. From the first stanza alone, the poet expresses that if Celia graces him with her glance, he would be happy and would treat it as if their eye contact was some sort of pledge between them already. There was desperation or passion evident in the poet as he treats the lip mark of Celia in a wine glass as a kiss. With the kiss that shows the beauty of the woman he loves, although in the cup, he is willing give up everything, even things that pleasures him. This shows that love is all that matters and materialistic things (wine) become less appealing when a person is in love.
