Cheating on Campus

“Cheating is a shortcut and it`s a pretty efficient one in a lot of cases.”
That`s not exactly the lesson most people want students to be learning in high school, but it`s what one of my former classmates, says she believes.
There is a growing evidence she`s not alone.
So, what is cheating and why do students cheat? Cheating is defined as the international act of breaking the rules, or attempting to achieve personal gain through fraud or deceit. Many children cheat because they feel compelled to measure up a standard that they do not believe they can reach honestly. Older children and teens are dependant on peer approval and dread exposing themselves as “stupid” or “slow”. They will risk the consequences of being caught cheating rather than be humiliated by a poor performance. Parents may put pressure on their children to succeed, creating expectations beyond their children`s abilities.
