The Planting of English America
1. England’s Imperial Stirrings
Only 10% of the 1492 population of Indians were still living. Three prominent outposts existed in North America, including: Santa Fe by the Spanish in 1610, Quebec by the French in 1608, and Jamestown, Virginia by the English in 1607. Religious arguments were still being had. Much rivalry between Protestant England and Catholic Spain.

2. Elizabeth Energizes England
English “sea dogs” were used to attack and steal from Spanish ships. Francis Drake was one of the most famous. 1585- Roanoke Island discovery in North Carolina. Soon after, it mysteriously vanished. The Spanish Armada was put together to invade England in 1588, but the English “sea dogs” triumphed. Spain soon began to lose power. In 1604, a peace treaty was signed by Spain and England.
