Changes in the Viewer’s Perception of VivianMaterial Effects in Society:

Pretty Woman is one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time. Yet, few people seem to acknowledge the fact that Vivian Ward, played by Julia Roberts, was always a classy lady with morals and values, regardless of her physical appearance. Through the elaborate use of camera angles and shots, Vivian is seen, as she walks down Rodeo Drive in an elegant dress, as a socially acceptable lady with morals and values, although she has only changed her physical appearance. The scene of the movie when Vivian walks into the department store on Rodeo Drive, symbolizes the negative reflection that society has on material possessions, and presents the acceptance of Vivian into our disapproving culture.
