CHanGE

Change is something that we all experience in our lives, it is inescapable and occurs all around us, in many and varied forms, but it is how we respond to change that defines us as individuals.

This concept that change defines who we are as individuals is equally prevalent in the stimulus booklet text “The Door“, Harwood’s poem “The Glass Jar” And Robert Frosts “the road not taken”.

Miroslav Holub's "The Door" uses repetition to create an imperative tone. The phrase "Go
and open the door" is repeated at the beginning of each stanza, while the poet is really
trying to persuade the responder to take an action and do something with his/her life.
The 'door' can be seen as a metaphor for change; Holub is encouraging us to walk through and further define ourselves as individuals.
"The Door" also provides the responder with a listing of the realm of possibilities
which change can bring about: 'a tree, or a wood, a garden or a magic city.' These
