Ceremony

Ceremony:

Ceremony was a Native American “story” with great characters, themes, and language. Tayo, the main character in the novel, is made up of Native American and white cultures. For this he is looked at differently, not just because of how he looks. Also because of the society’s confusion between the two cultures and the way they are molding and changing. It seems as though Tayo respects and believes the traditional ways of the Native Americans much more than many of his peers. This is the reason after the war Tayo seeks to find a cure for his mental breakdown. Other just drink their problems away with alcohol, but not Tayo, he knows it can only blind him. It is this feeling of always wanting to fit into the community that drives Tayo for a cure. Betonie is the one who teaching Tayo and gives him the tools in the ceremony to get on with his life.
