Curituba- a sustainable city

 Curituba is the capital city of the Brazilian State of Parana has often been cited as a model for other LEDC cities to follow when pursuing policies, which are considered to be sustainable.
 In many ways Curituba is typical of LEDC cities
 Pop growth has been extremely rapid, from 300 000 in 1950 to 2.1 million in 1990.
 The growth is largely as a result of rural urban migration encouraged by the industrialisation of Curituba.
 The mayor of the city introduced a range of policies, which promoted urban sustainability.
 The heart of Curituba’s urban sustainability is a master plan, which intervened directly in urban development and aimed to improve the quality of life for all citizens.
