Catcher in the rye and assasins Catcher in the Rye and Assasins Lennon-Chapman: Catcher in the Rye is a book about adolescent dislike and loathing of everything. Holden Caulfield, the main character of the book, personifies this hatred in personable form. Mark David Chapman found countless similarities between him and the disgruntled teen-ager in the story, Holden. The story starts off in the winter, on a Monday, fairly near Christmas. Close to the time in reality when Lennon was murdered, Monday December 8th 1980. The setting of the story related to Chapman’s life at that point as well. Crumby hotel rooms and lobby’s filled with perverts and morons. The prostitute in the hotel even had a relation to Chapman’s own experiences. Chapman was met by a prostitute in a similar green dress.
