catch 22

When a difficult situation arises, the tendency is to push the problem away so that it doesn’t have to be dealt with. In the novel, Catch 22, the author uses humor to portray World War Two in order to lighten up what would be an otherwise gloomy subject. Joseph Heller uses humor to portray the absurdity of war through the catch 22 situations, Major Major Major Major, and through the so-called insanity of Yossarian. Heller uses these comedic situations to emphasize how people lose their grip on life during a war.
Heller takes the title of the novel in many directions by showing characters in lose-lose situations. From the very start, Heller explains how a soldier can ask to get sent home from the war for being crazy, but the officials conclude that if a person has asked directly to be sent home from the war then they are obviously not crazy. “Orr was crazy and could be grounded.
