Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

In the play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Brick is detached, unemotional, and very hard to get along with. Maggie, his wife, has a hard time just trying to have a conversation with her husband. Ever since Brick’s best friend, Skipper, died, he has been unhappy, detached from reality, terribly difficult to get along with, and he has turned into a drunk. Nothing can make Brick happy; not his mother, father, brother, or even wife. Brick seems to be happiest when he sits around drinking and sulking over something no one can identify or understand. Brick misses Skipper badly and blames what happened to him on himself.
One main reason Brick is so bitter towards life is because he feels there are lies everywhere and it is not possible to get away from all the lies in his life. He thinks his wife cheated on him with his best friend (Skipper), everyone is lying about his father’s condition, he is blaming himself for his best friend’s death, and his brot...
