Canon in D

This is about a song, by the name of “Canon in D” composed by a German Pianist and Composer Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706).

In musical terms, Canon is a composition in which each voice or part takes up the melody in turn and when combined, forms counterpoint as in singing rounds. It’s melody is simple but very beautiful because of it’s own style with the very simple and sweet harmony. It does have a lovely main theme. Pachelbel composed this song for violins.
First the bass lays down a simple rhythmic and melodic pattern which it will repeat throughout the piece. This is called a "ground bass." Then a violin states the principal theme, and when it has gotten far enough along, and another violin follows in its footsteps, repeating the very same notes, which have been ingeniously designed so that the first and second violins together create harmony.
