California Recall 2003. This combination of words is perhaps the most frequently spoken phrase in recent times. Gray Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cruz Bustamante and Tom McClintock have become household names for most Californians. This “golden state” of California, once revered as a state of opportunity, has become a state who finds itself repeatedly immersed in controversy. In the latest controversy, we as Californians have gained ample national attention. This is in large part due to the combination of political intrigue and Hollywood celebrity that this gubernatorial recall has brought about.
The process of recalling a governor in the state of California was created in the early 20th century along with the referendum and initiative processes.
