CALCIUM

When the word calcium is said usually the first thing that comes to mind is not a chemical, but milk or vitamins. Calcium is in fact an important chemical that benefits use in many ways. But how was it first discovered? Who discovered it? What does it do?
A scientist discovered calcium in 1808 by the name of Sir Humphrey Davy. Sir Humphrey Davy discovered calcium by isolating it with electrolysis of a mixture of lime and mercuric oxide (HgO). The Romans prepared compounds such as lime in the first century under the name calx. This is where the name for calcium derived from. Since it came from the Latin word calx, which means lime.
