I do believe that a CPA should have the right to turn in clients who are breaking the law. It seems to me that if someone knows that there is a law being broken and does nothing about it, they would be conspiring to the guilty. The law is set for a reason and if it is broke, the guilty should be punished.
This case of an accountant-client relationship is a difficult one to argue. Yes, the client should have faith in his accountant, a person who handles one of the most private matters in a person’s life, finances, to not let that information known. But breaking the law is a time when I feel that in any relationship that someone has the right to tell of the wrong doings. In this situation, there should be a type of unwritten contract that if a client gives an accountant wrong information, there will be an investigation to see if was faulty or a cover up. If it is found to be a cover up, the public will know information and the law should have a hand in it.
