Buddhism

Buddhism, a major world religion, founded in northeastern India and based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who is known as the Buddha, or Enlightened One. Buddhism was the first religion to spread the message of universal love and non-violence. Buddhism ideas were never enforced by force. It was also the world's first missionary religion. The Sangha of the Buddha was said to have influenced early Christianity. Buddhism was also a rational system. Buddhists didn't emphasize prayers or rituals; they felt that controlling one's mind and desires were more important.
Buddhism began the year of 563 BC, the year Siddhartha Gautama was born. The name Siddhartha means "he whose aim is accomplished." He was the son of a wealthy landowner named Shudhodana and his mother was Maya.
