Religion is one thing that helps millions of people function in their daily lives and helps many perfect themselves. Buddhism is one of the most popular religions throughout the world. Buddhism has been significant in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Laos, China, Japan, Taiwan, Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia, Korea, and Vietnam. The number of Buddhists worldwide is estimated between 150 and 300 million. Buddhism was originally a monastic movement, but it quickly developed in a distinctive direction. Buddhism is a major world religion that was founded in northeastern India and based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who is known as the Buddha, or Enlightened One.
