Bridget Jones Diary is a film produced by Helen Fielding that is based on the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The film like the novel portrays many different messages, emotions and brings upon the change and growth of characters through self-realisation and strength. Both Bridget Jones and Elizabeth Bennett relate to the same experiences although in different time frames many of their life experiences and family relations.

In the opening of Bridget Jones Diary we see Bridget on new years day, hung over and still single. Almost a curse in her mothers eyes.
As she makes her way through the snow to her mothers annual curry buffet she fears that this year will be no better.
Arriving at her mothers she is greeted by critical and insensitive mother Pamela. As soon as she walks through the front door it starts, the voice that Bridget is still unable to become immune to her mothers.

“Hello Dumpling.”

This as she fears is only the start.
